Education

CETL provides a unique opportunity for students of all ages to connect deeply with the natural world and explore its wonders. A spectacular array of life thrives in this diverse landscape little disturbed by development. In our first two summers, we’ve hosted learners from local elementary schools, from several New England colleges, and from across the country.

Colleges and Universities

Plan your next field course at CETL. Our beautiful shores offer the perfect backdrop for learning about a variety of subjects, including marine biology, environmental science, art, and education. Give your undergraduate or graduate students an immersive experience that will change their worldview. Ask about our housing and meal plans.

Teacher Professional Development

Several Maine principals have already begun discussing with us the potential of bringing their teachers to CETL for professional development in STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.  Programs developed for Maine teachers may be offered to teachers from throughout the nation. The Next Generation Science Standards, which Maine recently adopted, include many values of CETL, including systems thinking, human interaction with the Earth and climate change. Offering professional development related to these concepts will have broad appeal.

K-12 Student Programs

Discussions have been initiated with a local principal to envision how to develop a K-8 curriculum to connect children with their land and its rich history. The hope is that students would return each year for new experiences that build on the previous year. This curriculum could be shared widely and used for other groups or adapted for other locations.

family camp

CETL welcomes families to unplug and unwind, to relax and enjoy the many features of the Cobscook Bay coastline. We value intergenerational learning that fosters a sense of wonder in both adults and children.

Workshops

CETL’s network of educators has provided a wide range of ideas for workshops. We may offer courses in stone masonry, building wood fired ovens, nature journaling, or a writers’ retreat.

service

Service is an important part of our mission. Students, young and old, will have the opportunity to provide service to nearby organizations.
